The Accountant

Review Panel Accountant

Summary:

Christian Wolff is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King, starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

Review

The movie itself starts telling its story very slowly (sis does not mean it’s slow paced though). In this start, we learn about the characters and why they are doing what they are doing and also see some different scenes which meaning does not appear until the end; you will not fully understand what is going on till the movie ends. Moreover, the first half of the movie could be considered as drama genre: slow, mysterious and exciting. And it does give all this in a good way.

The second half goes from a passive and quiet feeling to basically an action movie. This dramatic change makes the end faster that it actually is, and also ends the movie at a great scale: the sequences are fast and very well filmed. As said before, the ending does explain a lot of the mystery from the start, although it can go a bit monotonous with explanations at some points. Another point week point to mention is a certain love relation between 2 characters: it sometimes seems forced, just there to have a love aspect to the movie.

Ben Affleck offers us without a doubt on of his best performances: you really care about this character: you understand his past and why he’s doing what he’s doing. Furthermore, the rest of the acting also gives a good standard level.

Overall, The Accountant offers us a good drama/action movie with great characters and explanations. In spite of this, some scenes feel to forced: love scenes or explanation monologues that you wonder if they were really needed. A great movie, but not necessarily for everyone.
